A wonderful member of Melastomataceae family natives to Ecuador and Peru. This species bears amazing lancelated leaves that emerge bright red and gradually turn deep green when mature. The venation adds quite a bit of interest to these leaves as do the stems that hold up the leaves which are typically bright red with some lime green markings. What make it differs from other Melastomaceae is that it forms a beautiful caudex, where is home for certain species of ants.
By nature of the plant, it grows as a lithophyt (epiphyt growing on rock) so require very coarse, porous media and need fairly dry between watering. High humidity and good air movement is recommended. If ample moisture is not provided, this species may go dormant. If this does happen, it will quickly come back to life once it has been well watered again.
Offered are seed-grown plants, established in 4" pot
